Audio Input Sources
An Audio Input source puts live hardware audio on the mixer: the iPad’s built-in microphone, or a USB or Lightning audio interface — a mixer, a podcast interface, the audio side of a capture card.
Adding one
Add an Audio Input source to an empty slot, then pick:
- Input device — which piece of hardware to listen to. The picker lists what’s actually plugged in, by name.
- Channels — take the whole input as mono, or pick a specific stereo pair. Useful on a multi-input interface where each guest has their own channel.
The source appears on the mixer as an audio-only strip with the usual fader, mute, AFV and metering.
The iPad Mic strip
The iPad’s own microphone is always available as a mixer input, without occupying a slot. Turn it on or off from the IPAD MICROPHONE section in any source’s gear sheet in the mixer.
Because it has no slot tile of its own, the gear sheet is where it lives — including when you need to switch it off and back on to recover a mic that has gone quiet.
The iPad Mic and an Audio Input slot can both be live at once. They no longer compete for the input route.
Capture card audio
A USB capture slot carries video only. iPad won’t give an app a capture card’s embedded audio through the video device.
To take that card’s audio, add an Audio Input source and pick the card’s USB input as the device. You then get an explicit device choice, channel mapping, and a real strip on the mixer — none of which the old per-slot switch could do.
Control from elsewhere
POST /inputs/quick-add accepts audio_interface with an explicit port, and inputs_configure_audio_input re-pins a slot in place — the tool to use when an interface was unplugged and came back on a different port. See MCP Tools.
