Streaming to Twitch

Twitch is the leading live streaming platform for gaming, creative content, and live events. pMix.studio includes a built-in Twitch preset.

Getting your stream key

  1. Go to Twitch Dashboard
  2. Navigate to SettingsStream
  3. Copy your Primary Stream Key

Your stream key is persistent — it doesn’t change between streams unless you reset it.

Configuring pMix.studio

  1. Open the output settings and tap Live Streaming
  2. Under Add Destination, tap Twitch, then choose Paste stream key — the ingest URL is filled in for you
  3. Paste your stream key (the Get your Twitch stream key link in the editor jumps straight to the dashboard)
  4. Review the recommended settings:

Prefer not to handle keys at all? Choose Sign in to Twitch instead — pMix.studio fetches your stream key automatically every time you go live, and nothing is stored on the iPad. You can switch a pasted-key destination to sign-in later with Sign in to Twitch instead in the destination editor.

Setting Recommended value
Resolution 1920x1080
Frame rate 30 or 60 fps
Video codec H.264
Bitrate 4500–6000 kbps
Keyframe interval 2 seconds
Audio AAC, 128 kbps

Twitch recommends 6000 kbps maximum for most streamers. Twitch Partners may have higher limits.

Going live

  1. Tap Start in pMix.studio’s output controls
  2. Your stream appears on your Twitch channel within a few seconds
  3. Set your stream title, category, and tags in the Twitch Dashboard before going live

Tips

  • Twitch requires H.264 — H.265 is not supported
  • Keyframe interval must be 2 seconds — Twitch enforces this for transcoding
  • Bitrate ceiling — Exceeding 6000 kbps may cause buffering for viewers without transcoding options
  • Test with a VOD — Enable “Store past broadcasts” in Twitch settings to review your stream quality after testing
